Cross-Border Celebration of Achievement of Learners

Final Celebration Evening for Blackwater Re-Skilling Project had been held with students and tutors from Dungannon, Armagh and Monaghan meeting to celebrate their successes in achieving on Tuesday Night. Event had been organised by Blackwater Regional Partnership (BRP) Re-Skilling Project to congratulate and thank all participants that undertook training with them.

The objective of this project had been to promote and help in the development of skills in rural communities and enhance opportunities. Funding for this project has been part-financed by the European Union through the INTERREG IIIA Programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the ICBAN Partnership. A total of €246,612 had been received from INTERREG IIIA and additional €82,204 from Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough, Armagh City & District and Monaghan County Councils to support and deliver the project over a three year period.
 
The event, held at Caledon Courthouse, saw students share their experiences and achievements from undertaking training. A Heritage Tourism student commented that the course was ‘a great excuse to indulge my interest in local history, enhance my knowledge in a relaxing, friendly environment ’.   
 

 


 

The Deputy Mayor of Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council Pat Daly,   Doreen Lappin (South Eastern Regional College) and Nuala Cole Blackwater Valley Community & Peace Centre) made presentations explaining the rationale behind the project, rural commitment received from all councils and the importance of life-long learning. Nuala Cole when on to explain the rationale behind her project and encouraged everyone to take advantage on training currently available free at under her Peace Building Course. From Monaghan County Council, Cllr Carville and Cllr Rolleston from Armagh City & District all attended the event showing support and encouragement to all participants for their efforts on receiving their certificates. 
Julie Ann Spence, Projects Officer from BRP explained ‘that courses provided in the rural community encourage people to take ownership of their learning and working in smaller groups provided that personal touch. The project is promoting cross border involvement and we have strived to provide training that the rural community find beneficial to enhance employment opportunities. As this is the last of our training, we would like to thank everyone for their help and support and wish everyone success in meeting their goals.
