Boots 'n' Bogs Walking Festival
26th & 27th April 2008

The Clogher Valley and Knockatallon rambling clubs are hosting this two-centre cross-border walking festival over the week-end of 26th & 27th April. The event has been organised to allow you to experience the delights of both the lush landscapes and forests of the Clogher Valley in County Tyrone and the stark beauty of the neighbouring Sliabh Beagh Hills in north Monaghan. Two walks are offered each day; a long walk over a variety of terrain that will include some bog walking interspersed with forest track and minor road and a medium-distance walk over terrain that is largely forest track and minor roads.

The long walks will require a reasonable level of fitness and stamina as they will involve uneven terrain, distances of 12 to 14 miles and at least 5 hours in the great outdoors. The shorter walks range from 7 to 10 miles and generally involve more civilised terrain and a gentler pace. However you are encouraged to find your own pace on all of the walks and the sweepers will ensure that you are not left behind! There will be frequent ‘banana breaks’ and the craic and good company is sure to sustain you. Refreshments will be provided at the end of each walk but you should bring sufficient snacks and water to keep you going throughout the day. Walking boots and suitable waterproof clothing are essential and you should bring a change of clothing and footwear for the journey home.

The walks are all open to the general public; you do not need to be a member of a walking club. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The walks are generally not suitable for children under 14 years.

There is no event charge as funding is provided by Border Action under the EU INTERREG 111A Programme for Ireland/Northern Ireland. You may wish to make a voluntary contribution to Autism Initiatives for the Clogher Valley walks and to Tydavnet Faith & Light for the Sliabh Beagh walks. It is helpful if you can indicate your intention to join us in advance as this helps with the organisation of transport and refreshments
